Upskilling Short Courses

Improve current skills and enhance your knowledge through a variety of short courses offered by Abertay University.

These courses are fully funded for learners in Scotland.

Our Climate Change, Carbon, and Sustainability, Digital Marketing, Managing Transformational Change and Digital Business suites are funded by the Scottish Funding Council Upskilling Fund.

For learners who live or work in the Tay Cities Region, our Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning suites are funded by DigiTay, the Tay Cities Region Deal Digital Skills Project. For learners who live or work in other parts of Scotland, these courses are funded by the Scottish Funding Council Upskilling Fund.

All courses are free to applicants, credit-bearing and a recognised university qualification.

Please note: upskilling short courses are in high demand meaning there may be a waiting list.

The courses 

Delivered 100% online, they include recorded lecture content and carefully curated readings. These courses are designed for flexible study around your work and home commitments. The courses offer 50 hours of guided and independent learning over three weeks each.

Who are the courses for?

Our courses are suitable for a wide variety of people: those in work, the self-employed, managers and owners of small to medium sized businesses, those working in charities or third sector organisations and anyone interested in expanding their knowledge on specific topic areas.

There are no academic entry requirements, but you must be living in Scotland.

Unfortunately, these courses are NOT available for those currently in full-time education.

How do the courses work? 

The short courses - within each subject area - build upon one another to create a complete skillset and knowledgebase. You'll benefit most if you complete all of the courses within each suite, but don't worry if you're unable to.

Qualifications

Each course is worth 5 university credits*. For each course you successfully complete, you will have 5 credits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). The SCQF supports all learners in Scotland for all levels of qualifications.

*with the exception of our AWS Academy Machine Learning course, within the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning suite, which is worth 10 university credits.
